![]() The Chief Executive Officer of the PNG Think Tank Group, Samson Komati, has called on the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) to conduct an independent investigation into the recent technical glitch at BSP Bank. Mr. Komati stated this on the FM100 TalkBack Show that the technical glitch at BSP is an internal problem that has affected thousands of BSP customers nationwide. Mr. Komati said that banks and financial institutions in the country fall under the jurisdiction of the BPNG, which has a duty to ensure the accountability of commercial banks, microbanks, and financial institutions as they hold public money. He urged the Acting Governor of BPNG Elizabeth Genia to institute an investigation into BSP Bank to determine the extent of the issue. FM100/Hot97 Fm News has reached out to Acting Governor of BPNG Ms. Genia on whether BPNG has conducted an investigation into this ongoing issue. Ms. Genia responded saying BPNG will not comment further on the issue as it is ongoing.
Meanwhile Mr. Komati said it is in the interest of citizens for the Bank of PNG management to hold BSP Bank accountable for this technical glitch which has affected thousands of businesses and SMEs and individuals for last two weeks and now running into the third week. He also stated that if it was a mere technical glitch, it should have been corrected within 36 hours, but it has been ongoing for two weeks, raising suspicions about what BSP may be hiding from its customers and the public.
