Sir John emphasized the need to refrain from playing the blame game, warning against exploiting public frustrations for political gains. He urged elected leaders, especially those in the government, to take full responsibility for the known social and economic challenges faced by the people. The statement follows a disturbing incident in Port Moresby on Wednesday, where shops were looted and burned. Sir John expressed deep concern over the situation and stressed that the government must not be complacent in dealing with the unprecedented levels of social and economic challenges. Advocating for immediate action, Sir John called upon the government to establish a task force dedicated to investigating the matter and finding solutions to aid affected businesses. He also proposed providing incentives to those who lost their jobs during the civil unrest. In addition to addressing the economic fallout, Sir John appealed for the restoration of peace and order in the city.
