The Highlands and New Guinea Islands Region will have their COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine supplies, distributed to them today. National Control Centre (NCC) Incident Manager Dr. Daoni Esorom made this known early this week. Frontline health workers, police, and defence personnel together with teachers will be among the first to be vaccinated. According to the NCC distribution plan, over 45,000 will be delivered to the Highlands Region, which includes Western Highlands, Southern Highlands, and the Eastern Highlands, Jiwaka, Enga, Chimbu, and Hela Provinces.
Over 17,000 vaccines will be sent for the New Guinea Islands Region, with the Autonomous Region of Bougainville receiving over 5,000 vaccines and East New Britain receiving over 4,000 despite recording more cases and deaths than the former.
