![]() Port Moresby Police acting on a court order facilitated a massive eviction exercise at the Garden Hill settlement in Port Moresby today. Commander NCD Central Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Junior said, awareness on this eviction was undertaken by the land lord, over a 30 day period, before the excavator and bulldozer escorted by armed police moved in for the demolition today. ACP Wagambie said the eviction this morning was initially delayed because, senior police officers at the helm of this eviction were embroiled in a tense argument with the disgruntled settlers. After explaining to them the existence of a court order, the police waited for the settlers to remove their belongings before the machinery swung into action.
The Commander said it is disheartening to see people displaced from their place of abode, but citizens must also respect the laws, when coming to dwell in the city. He said the Constabulary was only enforcing a court order produced by the Landlord. Police will maintain presence at Garden Hills until this demolition and eviction exercise is completed.
