![]() MORE than 1,700 Papua New Guineans are working in Australia and New Zealand, and the Governments plans to push that to 8,000 workers by 2025, says Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey. He was commenting on the extension to the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (Palm) scheme. “The Australian government continues to demonstrate its strong friendship with the people of PNG, through the Palm scheme,” he said. Stuckey said it represented the expansion of training and recruitment of PNG workers for the Australian labour market. “Treasury continues to facilitate this initiative through the PNG Labour Mobility Unit (LMU).
“The PNG LMU is the agency authorised by the Australia and New Zealand governments to provide such labour recruitment services from PNG.” The signing coincided with the conclusion of the national labour mobility coordinator’s workshop which brought together participants from 17 districts and provinces.
