Administrative Services Minister Richard Masere has given his assurance that the allowances for census enumerators and other service providers will be resolved. He stated that the Department of Finance has already released K153 million, which will be distributed across all provinces. "Our immediate concern is the National Capital District (NCD) because data collectors are already in the field. Therefore, I have instructed the National Statistician to release the funds," Minister Masere explained. "The National Statistics Office will directly pay NCD, but for the rest of the country, funds will be sent to provincial finance offices. The finance officers, along with the provincial census coordinators, will then handle the enumerators' payments." Masere also mentioned that for the past 10 days, "crisis meetings" have been conducted to tackle challenges encountered during the national census, with a notable issue being the participation of teachers nationwide.
"We met with the secretary and the deputy secretary of the Department of Education. A circular will be issued to ensure that teachers involved in the census remain in their roles, while those not participating as counting officials will continue with their classes," Minister Masere added. Term three of the public school year is scheduled to begin in the coming week. Also read Comments are closed.
