NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says Government has no clear direction to address the unemployment rate in the country. Parkop made the remark during the launching of the PNG Career Development Incorporated (PNGCD Inc) in Port Moresby yesterday. “The Government should have a structure in place in which to prepare our young people to continue their career path or journey for the greater outcome,” he said. Parkop urged the Government to look into the challenges by creating employment so that the economy could grow as about 70 per cent of the population were young people. He said that in the past jobs were very easy to find with any level of education but today it was hard to find the job as more graduates were on the streets looking for jobs despite having a degree.
Parkop commended the PNGCD Inc for coming up with the clear strategy and a policy of job searching tips that created the pathway for young graduates who were looking for jobs in the country. Meanwhile, PNGCD Inc director John Kamasua said that the Job-ready programme had bridged the gap of academic skills and the work place requirement. Kamasua said that PNGCD Inc assisted the gradated students to find jobs by getting all the interview tips and job application skills using their media platforms. He said this programme would continue to empower and add value to the graduating students who find employment after finish from the universities and colleges.
