The PNG Opposition team has voiced serious concerns over several critical issues affecting the nation, including escalating law and order problems, a worsening fuel crisis, cash flow issues, and a shortage of medical drugs and funding to procure them. In a statement made today, Alternative Prime Minister Reinbo Paita underscored the urgent need for government action, highlighting a significant breakdown in law and order across the country. Paita called for the appointment of a strong Police Minister to enforce tougher penalties and make decisive actions to address these challenges. "There is a major breakdown in law and order in the country," Paita said, urging the government to take immediate steps. "The government is not dealing with law and order, and it needs to start taking action."
Paita also raised alarms about the rise in illegal drug trade by growing syndicates, accusing the government of neglecting this issue. "The issue of drug trade is so untouched and protected, our country is becoming a point for transnational crime and what is the government doing about it?" he questioned. "We have reports of such, setting up crime factories here, and we cannot continue to see this and not do anything about it. The government should have a very hard stance on this or else we will be spectators in our own land." Additionally, Paita expressed concerns over the influx of illegal immigrants, which he claims are undermining local businesses. He urged Prime Minister James Marape to appoint a strong Immigration Minister to tackle these issues effectively. "Our country is flooded with illegal immigrants that are taking over reserve business from local citizens," he added. The Opposition stated its readiness to rescue the country from its current plight, noting that it has drafted policies aimed at changing the nation's course. They emphasized their preparedness to implement these policies to address the pressing issues faced by Papua New Guinea. Also read Comments are closed.
