Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - In a brief but significant diplomatic engagement, Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape welcomed New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon during Luxon's transit stop en route to Japan. The two leaders took the opportunity to conduct a one-on-one meeting, followed by discussions involving ministers from both governments. The agenda for these meetings focused on key areas of mutual interest, including Trade and Investment, Agriculture, and exploring potential new investment opportunities for Papua New Guinea in New Zealand.
Following their discussions, Prime Ministers Marape and Luxon addressed the media, highlighting the strong and enduring partnership between their nations. Prime Minister Marape emphasized New Zealand's consistent support for Papua New Guinea during challenging times, notably during the initial Bougainville Peace Talks and efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis. "We deeply appreciate New Zealand's recent support for the devastated communities in the Maip Mulitaka area of Enga Province," said Prime Minister Marape. "New Zealand has remained committed to mutual development cooperation, and we will continue to work with its government under existing bilateral agreements and explore new opportunities for the benefit of both our countries." After the brief stopover in Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Luxon and his delegation proceeded with their official trip to Japan, underscoring the continuous strengthening of relations between Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.
