The Marape led PNG Government has used its numerical strength and adjourned Parliament to Tuesday 10th August 2021 at 2pm, despite the Opposition's tabling of a notice of motion for a vote of no confidence, substituting Peter O'Neill as their candidate for the Prime Minister's post, in place of the initial nominee Patrick Pruaitch. Normally when a motion of no confidence is tabled, Parliament adjourns for seven days, to then take a division on the motion on the return date.
It appears the Permanent Parliamentary Committee refused the motion, and therefore Parliament remained free to be adjourned based on numbers. As usual, this matter is expected to play out in Court.
