Waigani, Papua New Guinea – The Supreme Court has reserved its decision on the standing of Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa regarding the review of the recent unsuccessful Vote of No Confidence. A five-judge bench, consisting of Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, Justice Les Gavara-Nanu, Justice Panuel Mogish, Justice David Cannings, and Justice Derek Hartshorn, is deliberating on the matter. In a full Supreme Court hearing held on Thursday, June 27, both parties presented their submissions and arguments. The hearing also included the intervener, Pila Niningi, and the Department of Justice and Attorney General, represented by their lawyer.
The decision from the Supreme Court in Waigani is expected to be announced tomorrow, Friday, June 28, at 9:30 am. This decision will determine whether the matter will proceed or be concluded. Following the hearing, Parliamentary Opposition Leader Tomuriesa addressed the media outside the courthouse. He expressed hope for a positive and fair ruling, urging the public to remain calm and avoid drawing premature conclusions as the decision is pending.
