The Supreme Court has ruled that Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa has the standing to pursue the special reference filed to recall Parliament to address a notice of no-confidence motion against Prime Minister James Marape. The five-man bench, led by Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, handed down the decision this morning in Port Moresby. Following the ruling, Mr. Tomuriesa expressed relief on behalf of the opposition, stating that the special reference will now proceed to the Supreme Court for a directions hearing and subsequently a substantive hearing before the five-man bench.
Attorney General Pila Niningi, an intervener in the special reference application, also welcomed the court's decision, indicating that the interveners would be filing their objections to the application before the five-man bench. Also read Comments are closed.
