Papua New Guinea Minister for Public Service Joe Sungi said he will get a report from his Secretary on the engagement of consultants in the public service. He said he will do this before Parliament resumes. He says those duplicating the role of a Secretary or head of an organisation in the public service will have to be removed. " We need to get rid of many consultants - consultants that are working with Heads of Departments or Secretaries of Departments and Provincial Administrators who get advice from consultants.
"If they (consultants) are engaged for a project, then that's a different matter. "This one is about those that are advising the Secretary and the Provincial Administrator. These are the ones that they cannot because they are now duplicating the work that the departmental head has been appointed to do and that's his or her job," Mr. Sungi said.
