Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has appealed to Papua New Guineans to be cautious when making comments about the visits of US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Hon. Narendra Modi to the country later this month. He said this today (Wednesday, May 3, 2023) in light of an increasing number of comments, on both social and mainstream media, in the lead-up to the visits by the two world leaders. President Biden will make a historic visit to the country on Monday, May 22, 2023. He will have a bilateral meeting with PM Marape as well as have a meeting with 18 Pacific Island leaders of the Pacific Island Forum, who will be in Port Moresby at the same time for the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC). ABOUT K2 million is yet to be repaid to the Bank South Pacific by customers who overdrew amounts in April because of technical issues related to the new banking system implementation. BSP Financial Group Limited chief executive officer Mark Robinson said the bank had recovered 75 per cent of the total amount overdrawn, and was expecting the balance to be repaid soon. The total overdraft was about K7.9 million, involving more than 36,000 customers who withdrew funds from their accounts at Automation Transaction Machine (ATM) and EFTPoS early last month due to a technical error. The prime suspect who used a bow and arrow to kill Senior Sergeant Ludwig Dondo on Monday, May 1, is still at large. Dondo was struck with an arrow when he went to the ATS settlement with his colleagues from the NCD Dog Unit to arrest some suspects involved in smuggling cannabis. ACP Wagambie said three other suspects were brought in by Central police after community leaders at ATS gathered them at 7am this morning. Mr Wagambie is calling on the community at ATS to find and deliver the prime suspect to police. He said Sergeant Dondo was only performing his job like every other policeman and policewoman in the city, and he did not deserve to die in such cruel circumstances. Senior Sergeant Ludwig Dodo, 54, from Talasia in the West New Britian Province, attached with the NCD Dog unit, died at 2.30pm today at the Port Moresby General Hospital, after he was shot with an arrow at the ATS settlement. He leaves behind his wife and five children. Senior Sergeant Dodo passed out from Bomana Police College in 1985 and worked with other sections within the Constabulary before transferring to the NCD Dog unit until his untimely death this afternoon. NCD/Central Commander, Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Jr, condemned the killing and called on the public to help find the suspects and bring them over to the police. A Leadership Tribunal has recommended for the dismissal of suspended Madang MP, Bryan Kramer from office, when it handed down it's decision this morning. The tribunal in a unanimous decision, recommended to the Speaker of Parliament to dismiss Mr. Kramer from office, when he was found guilty of scandalizing the Court in the first two allegations. The Chief Executive Officer of the PNG Think Tank Group, Samson Komati, has called on the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) to conduct an independent investigation into the recent technical glitch at BSP Bank. Mr. Komati stated this on the FM100 TalkBack Show that the technical glitch at BSP is an internal problem that has affected thousands of BSP customers nationwide. Mr. Komati said that banks and financial institutions in the country fall under the jurisdiction of the BPNG, which has a duty to ensure the accountability of commercial banks, microbanks, and financial institutions as they hold public money. He urged the Acting Governor of BPNG Elizabeth Genia to institute an investigation into BSP Bank to determine the extent of the issue.
