Members of the Opposition in Papua New Guinea have been denied access to the K5 million infrastructure funding by Prime Minister James Marape, raising concerns over the fairness of fund distribution. Senior statesman and Abau MP, Sir Puka Temu, highlighted this issue while addressing the fairness of infrastructure fund allocation to members of parliament. Sir Puka revealed that only four Opposition MPs were granted the K5 million infrastructure funds per member of parliament, while the rest of the Opposition MPs have been denied access. Sir Puka called on Prime Minister Marape and Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey to ensure fair distribution of the budget and not to use it to disadvantage those in the Opposition. He emphasized that the MPs in the Opposition represent over 30 percent of the population, close to 3 million people, who suffer when these budgeted funds are withheld.
He reiterated that penalizing MPs who disagree with Prime Minister Marape results in their constituencies being penalized, which he described as unlawful. In his remarks, Sir Puka criticized Prime Minister Marape for neglecting the management of the country in favor of political maneuvering. He pointed to the recent distribution of K5 million cheques to Government members as evidence of this bias against the Opposition. Also read Comments are closed.
